I started like any music student: long exercises, teachers speaking in terms nobody understood, and a constant feeling that this instrument was "only for the gifted". I got through that stage the hard way, and decided my students never would.
I studied performance professionally and worked as a professional violinist. But what pulled me more than the stage was a single moment: a nervous student producing their first clean note, and smiling. Teaching has been my real work ever since.
I taught for more than 6 years in schools, and 7 years to hundreds of students in music schools, on YouTube and online. Because teaching is a profession to me and not a hobby, I earned a PGCE with Merit from Liverpool John Moores University in the UK, and a teaching methodology certificate from Notting Hill, and I follow the academic Cambridge and California methodology in how I explain.
What does that mean in practice? Every lesson in my courses has a clear goal, a considered order, and an exercise that measures whether you actually learned it. Not just videos one after another.
Playing at night - the same feeling the neighbours heard in 2020During the covid lockdown, with empty streets and people stuck indoors, I took my violin out to the balcony and played for the neighbours. It was recorded as the first Arab violinist to play from a balcony, and the video travelled the world and started a trend that players everywhere joined.
That day taught me something: music is not a luxury, it is a way to keep company and to hope. From then on I decided to bring it to as many people as I could.
